JINWHO (artist name / 雅號(pronounced aho), Juwon Kim)is a Seoul-based photographer whose expansive practice explores the intersection of memory, identity, and medium, centered on the psychological reenactment of memory. My artistic exploration is structured across four interconnected categories, each reflecting the fluid and malleable nature of recollection.

The core of my conceptual practice lies in Staged Self-Portraits. Rooted in the profound experience of two thyroidectomy surgeries, I transform the "clinical gaze" of the operating room—where I was once a passive object—into an act of radical self-acceptance. By standing in front of the lens, I evolve from a patient into an active agent, utilizing dramatic cinematic lighting and ambiguous gestures to capture the visceral collision between the self’s physical substance and its psychological shadow.

A defining pillar of my work is Hybrid Media, specifically the signature series 'The Re-Colored Analogues'. In this practice, I bridge the documentary quality of film with the emotive subjectivity of painting by applying oil paints directly onto analog prints. This physical intervention transforms photographic records into unique, hybridized objects, reflecting the malleable essence of memory.

Additionally, my practice includes Traditional Analog Film Photography, focusing on the unique texture and contemplative process inherent in the medium. Parallel to my conceptual work, I maintain a body of Digital Travel Snapshots and Documentary Photography, which functions as a visual diary, capturing the "chromatic nuances" and observations of everyday life and global exploration. Through these diverse approaches, I strive to create images that are intensely personal yet universally resonant, inviting viewers to find beauty within the fragility of the human condition.
